What does each price step buy in this range — why is there a $1,400 gap between the cheapest and the most expensive?

The main differences are maximum speed, running-area size, frame construction, controls and additional workout features. At $569–$749, models such as the MX8 Plus Mix and X21 provide compact options for walking, jogging and everyday cardio. The MX8 Plus Mix combines vertical folding with built-in tray, while the award-winning X21 uses a double-fold design and reaches 12 km/h.

At $849, the X214 increases the maximum speed to 14 km/h and provides a wider 1,210 × 460 mm running area. The $1,049 X25 moves up to 16 km/h, a 1,320 × 500 mm running area and a 136 kg user capacity. The X25+ remains at 16 km/h but adds touch speed shortcuts, built-in workout programmes and visual light-bar feedback. At $1,299, the X218 offers the largest running area in this group at 1,400 × 510 mm, reaches 18 km/h and has a net weight of 58.5 kg.

The best choice is not necessarily the most expensive model. Choose according to your intended walking or running speed, available space, preferred controls and user-weight requirements. Prices and promotions may change.

Will a treadmill work in a Canadian condo without annoying the unit below?

Yes, but the amount of sound reaching the unit below depends on the treadmill, your speed, footfall, flooring and building construction. Brushless motors can help reduce machine noise, but footsteps and running impact may still travel through the floor.

Place the treadmill on a firm, level surface with a treadmill mat underneath, and choose walking over running when noise is a concern. Avoid early-morning or late-night workouts, and check your condo's noise and equipment rules before use. Concrete floors generally control vibration better than lightweight wood-frame floors, although results vary by building.

How much does a treadmill add to a Canadian hydro bill?

Usually only a modest amount, although the exact cost depends on the model, speed, user weight, workout duration and your provincial electricity rate. For example, a treadmill averaging 500 watts for one hour a day would use about 15 kWh per month. At an electricity rate of $0.15 per kWh, that would add approximately $2.25 per month before any applicable taxes or variable charges. This is an illustrative calculation rather than the measured consumption of a specific model.

Check the voltage and electrical requirements in your model's manual, and use a properly grounded wall outlet. Avoid sharing a power bar with high-power appliances such as a space heater or kettle. Electricity rates vary by province and rate plan, so you can estimate your own cost by multiplying the treadmill's power in kilowatts by the hours used and your electricity price per kWh. Electricity rates and billing structures vary by province and utility provider.

How do I lubricate and maintain a treadmill, and how often?

Lubrication, belt adjustment and cleaning are the main maintenance tasks. Check the instructions for your model, as the recommended schedule can vary. In general, inspect the belt every few months and apply a small amount of silicone-based treadmill lubricant beneath it when the deck feels dry. Turn off and unplug the machine first, then run it at a low speed for a few minutes after application to distribute the lubricant. Do not use WD-40, cooking oil or other household lubricants, and avoid applying too much.

If the belt drifts to one side or slips underfoot, follow your model's manual for the correct adjustment procedure. Keep the belt, frame and surrounding area clean, following the cleaning instructions in your model's manual. If slipping, drifting or unusual noise continues after basic maintenance, contact customer support. Running belt misalignment is listed in our return policy as a reason for which any shipping or delivery charges you may have paid will not be refunded due to the size and weight of our products.

What should I check before ordering so I do not end up returning it?

Measure both the area where you will use the treadmill and the space where you plan to store it. Compare the available floor space, ceiling height and storage space with the product’s unfolded and folded dimensions. You must also leave the safety clearance specified in the manual, which may be 1–2 m behind the treadmill and about 50 cm on each side depending on the model.

Check the packaging dimensions and gross weight to make sure the box will fit through doorways, hallways and stair turns, and arrange help if needed. Confirm the model's user-weight capacity, maximum speed, voltage and outlet requirements. Finally, decide whether you only plan to walk or may also want to run, as walking-only, hybrid and running models have different speed ranges and support features. Review the return policy before ordering, because returns related to choosing the wrong size, style or intended use may involve shipping costs.

Is 30 minutes a day on a treadmill actually enough to lose weight?

Thirty minutes a day can support weight loss, but it does not guarantee it. Weight change depends on your overall energy balance, including food intake and total activity across the week. The calories burned during a treadmill session vary with your body weight, speed, incline and workout intensity. As a reference, 30 minutes of walking at about 6.4 km/h may burn approximately 135–190 calories for adults of different body weights. Treadmill exercise can contribute to overall fat loss, but it cannot target fat from one specific area.

A treadmill at home may make it easier to exercise consistently when weather or schedules make outdoor activity less convenient. Aim to build a routine you can maintain, with at least 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per week as a general target. Combining aerobic activity with muscle-strengthening exercise at least twice a week can provide additional health and body-composition benefits.
